"¶ And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,
And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;
And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle,
and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to
every beast of the earth. And I will establish my covenant with you;
neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood;
neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God
said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and
every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set
my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and
the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth,
that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I will remember my covenant,
which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and
the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the
bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the
everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh
that is upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the
covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the
earth." ~ Genesis 9:8-17

The Everlasting Covenant
Part IIIa (The Rainbow Covenant Perspective)
prepared by Don R. Hender
Here a pause is needed to establish
the fact that long before Noah's flood God, that is our ministering God,
our Lord God Jehovah, had already estabished the Everlasting Covenant with
father Adam and the faithful 'fathers' after him. And further a reminder ought
to be given that 'The Everlasting Covenant' was first made before the very
foundation of the earth in that great Pre-mortal Counsel in Heaven, wherein
God the Father of Spirits did reveal the Plan of Salvation and establish His
'Everlasting Covenant' with all his spirit children, which include providing
a promised deliverer to redeem all flesh unto immortality and eternal life to
those who accept that Redeemer and who follow him and keep his commandments.
Now with this understanding of the 'everlasting covenant' of God with man, we
must understand that the covenant that God makes with Noah after the flood is
a 'renewal' of that covenant, that everlasting covanent, that included the
provision of a Savior and that all men would be 'saved'. Thus the covenant
made with Noah was that same covenant made before the foundation of the earth
and it was the same covenant God made with Adam and Adam's posterity. It was
the same covenant God made with Enoch, by which Enoch and his followers
progressed in until their righteousness allowed them to be translated and
raised up unto that higher state which they live in until the final judgment
and ultimate bestowal of reward is given. And this is the blessings and the
covenant of the fathers which God 're-establishes' with Noah and his posterity,
that is all flesh upon the earth after him and the 'related' but not 'centeral'
fact and event of the flood IS NOT to be considered the whole of the covenant
in and of it self. That is, God IS NOT just promising Noah that it is not
going 'to rain no more' to the level of a universal flood. What God is doing
in renewing the 'everlasting covenant' with Noah is re-establishing that the
Heaven Bound Covenant, that all encompassing and universal covenant of God
from before the foundation of the world, is still enforce and made new in and
with Noah and his posterity after him. In this Noah stand as the father of all
living after him even as Adan did in his day when the everlasting covenant was
made with him.
The restatement of the covenant with Noah was to reinsure Noah and his
posterity that the 'everlasting covenant' despite the catastropic events of
the universal flood, was indeed still fully in operation. Jehovah as Jesus
Christ would still come to bring redemption and salvation to all, even to
those before the flood as well as all those after the flood. The 'Flood Event'
did not altar the 'everlasting covenant' of God with man. Still all that
the ministering Lord God Jehovah did temporally create under the direction of
God the Eternal Father of Spirits, Elohim, would still all be redeemed by him
Jehovah/Jesus Christ as a result of that promised atonement to be made by him.
Now given that more all-encompassing understanding of the 'everlasting
covenant' of God with man, a careful re-reading of that covenant God made with
Noah does reveal by paying attention to certain key words and phrases, that
that covenant with Noah WAS NOT just a promise concerning flood waters. That
covenant first states that God would establish that 'covenant', that is the
'everlasting covenant', with Noah, which covenant also including the then
eventual birth of the promised Deliverer as a member of the posterity of Noah,
that is of the 'seed' of Noah. Then the key word of 'neither' made it
an added stipulation that neither would God again 'cut off' the
lives of all flesh by the waters of a flood. And neither would the
earth itself ever be destroyed by such a flood.
Now the 'token' of the bow, meaning of course the colorful rainbow,
was then by the Lord God given as the token of the 'everlasting covenant',
which ought to remind man of the 'Everlasting Covenant' made from the beginning
as well as of being 'associated' with that lesser threat of extinction of man
which the flood of Noah did present.
Then those who understand the eventuality of coming events ought to appreciate
that while God promised that the 'flesh of the earth' would not be totally
destroyed by 'flood waters', it DOES NOT preclude other possible related events
such as the 'burning of the wicked' at that great and dreadful day of the
Lord's Second Coming wherein the wicked will be burned.
Perhaps the very key sentence of the covenant renewal with Noah is this, "And
the bow [rainbow] shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may
remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature
of all flesh that is upon the earth." And then God said in closing to Noah
and his sons, "This is the token of the covenant, which I have
established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth."
The Covenant Continues
Now that 'everlasting' covenant did and does continue. It was that same
covenant 'blessings of the fathers' to which Abraham did seek and obtain as
the Covenant of Abraham. And it was that same covenant which was passed down
through Abraham's seed, which is of Noah's seed, to Isaac and Jacob. And it
was and is that same covenant which was placed upon Joseph the son of Jacob,
first made known in intent and purpose by Jacob by the giving of Joseph that
'rainbow' coat of many colors. And it is that same covenant which has even
come down through the ages of time and rests upon the seed of Ephraim, upon
whom today rests the responsibility of fulfilling the blessings of the covenant
upon all flesh to the extent that every nation, kindred, tongue and people
will be blessed according to that covenant to be redeemed of the Lord according
to that great work and glory of God to 'bring to pass the immortality and
eternal life of man' as applied to all men who ever have lived of the flesh
upon the earth, past, present and future.
This has been a view of the 'Everlasting Covenant' of God with man from the
perspective of the 'rainbow covenant' made by God with Noah. Hopefully
understanding this perspective will enlighten the reader to the fact that
Noah's covenant with God was and is indeed a part of that 'everlasting covenant'
promise of blessing from before the foundation of the world to the end thereof
by which salvation is given unto men by way of Jesus, the is Jehoshua, which
name means, Jehovah Deliverer.
