CHAPTER 3 King Benjamin continues his address—The Lord Omnipotent shall minister among men in a tabernacle of clay—Blood shall come from every pore as he atones for the sins of the world—His is the only name whereby salvation comes—Men can put off the natural man and become saints through the atonement—The torment of the wicked shall be as a lake of fine and brimstone. 1 AND again my brethren, I would call your attention, for I have
somewhat more to speak unto you; for behold, I have things to
tell you concerning that which is to come.
2 And the things which I shall tell you are made known unto me by an aangel from God. And he said unto me: bAwake; and I awoke, and behold he stood before me. 3 And he said unto me: Awake, and hear the words which I shall tell thee; for behold, I am come to declare unto you the aglad tidings of great bjoy.

4 For the Lord hath heard thy prayers, and hath judged of thy
arighteousness, and hath sent me to declare unto thee that
thou mayest rejoice; and that thou mayest declare unto thy people, that they
may also be filled with joy.
5 For behold, the time cometh, and is not far distant, that with power, the aLord bOmnipotent who creigneth, who was, and is from all deternity to all eternity, shall come down from heaven among the children of men, and shall dwell in a etabernacle of claya, and shall go forth amongst men, working mighty fmiracles, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, causing the lame to walk, the gblind to receive their sight, and the deaf to hear, and curing all manner of diseases. 6 And he shall cast out adevils, or the bevil spirits which dwell in the hearts of the children of men.
|
5a the Lord Omnipotent who reigneth, who was, and is from all eternity to all eternity, shall come down from heaven among the children of men, and shall dwell in a tabernacle of clay It is completely clear that the Book of Mormon does teach us that the Lord God Jehovah of the Old Testament is the same who is Jesus Christ of the New Testament. They are one and the same God, the Lord God of Israel. Yet it is important to also maintain and understand the doctrine of the Father and just how it is that Jesus Christ who is Jehovah is distinct and separate from God the Father of Spirits. Yes it is Jesus who does reign as the God of heaven and earth being the temporal creator of such under the direction of his Father. And he does reign as our God from all eternity to all eternity. And yet is important to understand exactly what is meant by that last statement. 'From all eternity to all eternity' does but mark that which is the age or ages of time, which is that duration of the temporal estate from creatiion to final judgment. Like the mirror portals of the celestial sealing rooms of the temple which have opposit parallel reflecting mirrors, which reflect endlessly the reflections of each other, Christ is as that one who stands at the portals of each door way from and back to 'all eternity for the temporal man of the second estate. Only one from among us, the spirit children of God the Father of spirits, could be so appointed, anointed and empowereed with the Omnipotent power of God to so minister unto this temporal second estate, from its creation to the final judgment when fall man may re-enter back into 'all eternity' and the presence of the Father. As is stated in the D&C 130:5, only those who do pertain unto this 'world', that is this second temporal estate, may be called upon to so minister unto it. Otherwise one of the greatest of all principle would be broken, and that is that of Eternal Progress. For once Celestial God, as God the Father of Spirits is, he would not again so retrogress in order to minister and administer unto such as a temporal mortal estate. Thus he had to call upon one of us to so do so. And it fell upon the Firstborn, who was Jehovah, to so step up and take upon himself the responsibility of being our Ministering God, betwix eternity, from all eternity to all eternity again. And it was upon Jehovah that the Father placed his power and authority to government all of mankind of the second estate, to stand in the stead of the Father in all things, even as the ancient temple ordinances did reflect that the administering high priest of the temple was to be 'the son' of 'the father' to stand in the stead of the Father in all things (Lev. 16:32). |

7 And lo, he shall asuffer

it be unto death; for behold, eblood cometh from every pore,
so great shall be his fanguish for the wickedness and the
abominations of his peoplea.
8 And he shall be called aJesus bChrista, the cSon of God, the dFather of heaven and earth, the eCreator of all things from the beginningb; and his fmother shall be called Mary.
The Son of God We know from latter day scripture revealed that in that great and grand pre-council in heaven, the Father asked his spirit children who he should send. The rightful heir of the Father, His Firstborn Spirit Son stated, 'Here Am I, send me. And the glory be thine." As the creator of this second estate it would be also He who would redeem his creation. The Father anointed Him and placed Him 'From Among Us' (Emmanuel), to be our 'Ministering God' of this Second Estate. He it was, under the appointment of the Father who Created Heaven and Earth. He it was who was the Great God Jehovah of the Old Testament. He it was who when it came time for his own earthly existance did take upon Himself the sins of the world that this creation might be Redeemed unto Salvation. He it is who is our One True God whom we worship, even Jesus Christ. For the Father appointed Him and none other to act in and for behalf of the Father in the Father's stead in all things. And this because only those who pertain unto this creation or this Second Estate can minister unto it being part of it (D&C 130:5). The Father would and could not for He had progressed beyond it and would not retrogress back to pertaining to such a temporal and natural estate as this. The Father had obtained his Celestial Glory and was of an Eternally Exalted Being of Spirit housed in Glorified flesh and bone. And thus it required one from among us, His Spirit Children to take upon Himself the name of the Father, to do the will of the Father in all things to effect this Creation and Earthly Probation, that we might pass through and become as One In and with God, even AS GOD IS. Jehovah, even Jesus Christ did show the way before us, that we might all follow and become One with Him and with the Father, our Father In Heaven, the Father of our Spirits. |
7a blood cometh from every pore, so great
shall be his anguish for the wickedness and the abominations of his
people While traditional Christianity looks to the cross, it
is in the garden where Christ did suffer for the sins of the world. Here the
angel which appeared to King Benjamin confirms that it was in Gethsemane that
the Lord suffered his greatest anguish. While he suffered death upon the
cross, the greatest suffering was for the sins of the world the evening
before his trial and crucifixion. And then he suffered death at the hands of
others that he might effect the ressurection on the morning of the thrid day.
Thus greater than Calvery and the Cross is Gethsemane and the Ressurection.
Thus we do not look to the death of Christ and the Cross but to the life of
Chirst and that atonement of sin which we might partake of by our true and
sincere repentance unto him.
8a he shall be called Jesus Christ King Benjamin, as instructed by the message of an angel, in about 124 B.C., proclaims the name of the savior to come as 'JESUS CHRIST'. Those of a critical mind who rely upon the shallowness of the minds of those they attempt to influence do question, 'How did King Benjamin in 124 B.C. come to know the Greek name for the Messiah, Jesus Christ? And they propose this to be an anachronism flaw in the Book of Mormon. They rely upon the mindless who do not understand and appreciate just what the nature of a 'translation' is. Certainly the name recorded upon the golden plates was not 'Greek'. Nor is 'Jesus Christ' precisely Greek either, but our own modern English transliteration of the ancient Greek word, changed not only to English letters rather than ancient Greek characters and spelling, but in actual pronounciation as well from the original Greek. In that sense, the whole of the King James Bible is but an English anachronism of the ancient Greek text. Does this make the English Bible flawed and in error? The actual Nephite word, reformed Egyptian characters and pronounciation were likely quite different as well. Joseph Smith the translator would have just so stated the most modern and understandable equivilent of the name which is the English transliterated New Testament name Jesus Christ. He could have used Jehoshua Messiah, and then a whole set of other criticism might be contrived upon that useage. What the Book of Mormon is, is a modern (1830) English translation of an ancient text. Of course by its very nature of using a 'modern language' it will be full of necessary 'creative anachonisms' needed to made the ancient text understandable to the English reader, just as the King James Bible did in 1611 to the centuries old copies of the Greek, Hebrew and even other language texts of the Bible. The fact is that the Lord was named even earlier than that, all the way back to the time of Adam and before in the preexistence (See D&C 18, 'THE NAME'). 8b the Creator of all things from the beginning All things pertaining to this Second Estate, the heavens and the worlds thereof, have been created by the hand of Jehovah, the Firstborn spirit son of God the Eternal Father of Spirits, who is the same as Jesus Christ. And this He has done by that power and authority and direction of the Father according to the mind and the will of the Father, returning all glory unto the Father. He was the Firstborn in the spirit and the rightful heir of the Father. And thus from among us, the spirit children of the Father, He was so selected to be our Ministering God unto this fallen estate, that through Him men might be save to the purpose of bring to pass the immortallity and eternal life of man.

Was JESUS CHRIST
Bishop Eusebius makes another statement which represents well that which the
Prophet Joseph Smith was and is so openly critizied by the 'UNLEARNED'
critics as he states: This is exactly what Joseph Smith has presented to the world, that Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham and all the Holy Prophets did know of Jesus Christ and his Christian Gospel to come before and during each of their own times. They were 'in fact' Christians. This is what the Book of Mormon does also establish, that from Lehi on even to this King Benjamin and beyond, they knew of Jesus Christ and knew Him by name. They enjoyed the 'testimony of righteousness' and they where both Christians in fact and in Name! It would seem that the early Christians of the early Christian Church of Jesus Christ, both the Apostles and even the later Bishops who had entered into the phases of apostasy, did know, understand and have access to much more information concerning God and Jesus Christ than has remained down to our time by way of the the corrupted Churches of Traditional Christianity. Many a Christian Reformer knew it and understood it, that 'the Church' had fallen into false and corrupted doctrines and practices than that which was once in the true Church of Christ. What understanding remained in Bishop Eusebius even as one of Bishops poised to participate in the first of the corrupting councils which unified Christianity into the false contrived doctrines of the men who formed them after their own image of what their minds did conclude upon the matter after the removal of God's guiding revelations in the deaths of the guiding apostles and prophets of the early church. |

|
16a as in Adam, or by nature, they fall Now, while it is true that due to the lack of the accountability of understanding, or ignorance, little children are not capable of sin, they are not just automatically saved. For as in Adam all have fallen, that is taken upon themselves the corruption of the creature or the natural man; even so, then in Christ must all be made alive. Even little children must rely upon the atonement of Jesus Christ in order to obtain redemption. Without Christ's atonement, even the inocence of little children would be lost, never able to return to God again. Thus it is said that the blood of Christ does atone for their sins, that is the trangression of the fall and the nature of the carnal creature, which even little children have taken upon themselves in being bortn into mortality. |

through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive,
meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which
the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his
father Here is the picture of the 'everlasting gospel'. Through
faith, repentance and rebirth, man takes upon himself the Name and Spirit of
God. It is then that Spirit which enlightens that man in all
that he must needs do according to all the teachings of the words of God.
This is the Spirit of continuous revelation which is the communion between
God and man which for the most part Traditional Christianity has turned their
backs upon by contriving a 'Closed Cannon' to the Word of God, that there are
no more Apostles and Prophets, nor the ministering of angels and the Spirit of
Inspiration and Revelation unto the children of men. But without the guiding
Spirit of such revealed truth always before man, he can not walk continually
forever enduring all things in the way and path which God does have him
travel, line upon line, precept upon precept, ever bring man closer and near
to God all the days of his life. Herein is the 'Fulness of the Everlasting
Gospel'. All the books in the world could not contain all there is to know
about God which man must eventually come to know, understand and live if he
is one day to be AS GOD IS. Why then has man so limited, so damned himself
to such a small portion of Gods word to the contents of one Book, even the
Bible?
In deed, we do believe all that God has revealed. But we do also believe in addition all that God does continue to now reveal. And we further believe that God will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of Heaven. The scriptural cannon is not closed. All that man speaks when moved upon by the Holy Ghost is the same as scripture. Prophets and Apostles have not their end in the Old and New Testaments, but there are living Apostles and Prohets of God today. Angels do still minister unto the earth as they did in days past and as they will continue to do in times to come. And man may walk daily in the light and truth of the guidance and revelation bestowed upon him by the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost in his life continuously leading him unto the Kingdom of Heaven. 21a only through repentance and faith on the name of the Lord God Omnipotent (See verse 12) Since all but little children will be found in a state of sinfulness before God, then 'ONLY' through repentance and faith on 'THE NAME' of the Lord God Omnipotent can we be saved. That NAME is JESUS CHRIST (See D&C 18:23-25 & Commentary on D&C 18:23-25). Now we are assured that the GRACE of JESUS CHRIST is suficient to remove our sins according to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel and Doctrine of Christ. And then according to that degree of righteousness of intelligence and good works we have further risen to according to those further ordinances and and laws of the gospel by which we have progressed, we are given our reward in the kingdoms of glory of heaven and immortality. |

24a at the judgment day; whereof they shall be judged, every man according to his works, whether they be good, or whether they be evil To live the commandments is good, but the worth to the level of exaltation is unto good works which is in the service of God and man. And God's glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man, and to this end is service in God given to the benefit of man. As King Benjamin said, 'when ye are in the service of man ye are but in the service of God'. Selfless service is the measuring rod against which a man's eternal life and exaltation is measured. It is the measuring rod of one's love of God and man. If one loves God they will serve him with all their heart, might, mind and strength. They will lose themselves in their service to God and their fellow man to the end of bring all unto the exaltation of God. |
