1a Solomon With all the proverbs and
with all the wisdom of King Solomon the wise, Solomon did stray and sin in many ways.
The one to be noted, since so many of the proverbs speak of 'strange women' and of
'sexual sin' is that King Solomon, possibly blurred by his position and power as king,
turned away from God and went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians and he 'loved
many foreign women' from such as Egypt, the Hittite nation, Moab, Ammon, Edom, and
Sidon. He married them partly for intra-nation deplomacy and also he himself did lust
after them though the Lord had commanded Israel not to intermarry with other nations
not of their faith. And he did worship Astarte (Ashtoreth) and many foreign gods
including building on a mount east of Jerusalem a place to worship Chemosh, the
god of Moab and he built another place to worship even Molech. Just being wise is not
enough. Solomon lack the long term strength of character not to turn to the wicked ways
of the world dispite all his knowledge and understanding of righteousness and wisdom
from God.
